Michael Dufresne holds a Ph.D. in Biochemistry (1974) from the University of Alberta. Following post-doctoral studies at the University of Western Ontario as a Medical Research Council of Canada Scholar, he accepted research and academic positions at the University of Windsor. In 1998 he was appointed Research Coordinator for Cancer Care Ontario South and a research member of the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute.
Dr. Dufresne’s internationally recognized research spans 30 years and included cell and molecular studies on how environmental pollutants cause cancer, and how cancer spreads. He has served on numerous regional, provincial and national cancer care committees/task forces as well as serving on numerous local and regional health care boards and executive committees. In 2003 Dr. Dufresne was among a group of Canadian Scientists who were recognized by the National Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada “…for important research achievements that have contributed to the sum total of human knowledge and the advancement of the economic and social well-being of Canadians over the 25 years of NSERC’s existence”.
Since 2003, Dr. Dufresne serves as a professional health care and research consultant for various organizations including FCS International (www.fcsinternational.com) and the Windsor Cancer Centre Foundation (WCCF) (www.windsorcancerfoundation.org). In 2009 he was appointed Research Grants Administrator for Seeds4Hope, a rigorous, peer-review, cancer research grants program that he developed for the WCCF. He is also Founder and President of Michael Gerard Management Group, through which he manages a select roster of Canadian concert artists, and remains active as an educator and motivational speaker through his “Practical Guide” workshops, seminars, and presentations on cancer, aging, cycle of life issues and health care.
In 2011 Dr. Dufresne was the recipient of the Ontario Medical Association’s prestigious Honorary Membership Award “for having achieved eminence in science and/or humanities, such as outstanding services to the OMA, the medical profession, medical science or common good.”
