A Decision That Changes Everything

For years, Jim Crichton was a familiar voice in Windsor, a trusted broadcaster people welcomed into their homes each day. But when a routine check led to a prostate cancer diagnosis, Jim found himself in a position he never expected: no longer telling the story, but living it.

For Jim, the hardest part wasn’t hearing the diagnosis. It was deciding what to do next. The uncertainty. Whether to pursue treatment. When to act. “I struggled with the decision at first,” Jim says. “You start weighing everything, outcomes, quality of life, what’s ahead.”

Facing It Head-On

It wasn’t a simple choice. It was personal. Layered. And heavy in a way only those facing it truly understand. With the support of his wife Patricia, his constant and his rock, and the encouragement of his family, Jim made the decision to move forward with treatment. A decision he now knows mattered.

Jim underwent radiation treatment, which in many ways was more manageable than he expected. While the treatment itself was structured and predictable, it was the lasting effects that required the most adjustment. The kind of changes that don’t always get talked about, but that become part of everyday life in ways both physical and mental. But it wasn’t without its challenges. Months of side effects, ongoing digestive issues and the impact of hormone therapy, became part of his daily life. Quiet, persistent reminders that things had changed.

Still, Jim approached it the way he approaches most things, with logic, steadiness, and perspective. “There are many people worse off than me,” he says. “You just deal with what’s in front of you.” That mindset carried him through.

“If it can happen to me, it can happen to anyone.”

What Bravery Looks Like Now

Since his diagnosis, Jim’s perspective has shifted, not dramatically, but
in the ways that matter most.

Time feels different.
The small moments carry more weight.
Especially the ones spent with his grandchildren.

“It reminds you that life isn’t forever, but it also reinforces the importance of doing what you can to protect it.”
