Albert Dumouchelle
Through his popular Windsor Pizza review account, Albert has seen firsthand how powerful it can be to share local stories. Following his diffuse large B-cell lymphoma diagnosis, he is using his own experience to support cancer care close to home.
Taking a Leap of Faith
In early 2026, Albert noticed a growth on his left testicle. Initially, he told his family doctor, who referred him to a urologist. The urologist assured him that the growth was harmless, but Albert had the underlying feeling that something was wrong. After further discussions with his family doctor, he took a leap of faith and got a second opinion.
By this time, the growth had nearly doubled in size. The second opinion revealed that the growth appeared suspicious after all. Following testing, Albert was diagnosed with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma in March 2026.
From there, his care team moved quickly. There was immediate concern of the cancer spreading to other areas of his body, since it was initially discovered in an atypical area. Thankfully, the cancer was centralized, and Albert began chemotherapy treatment. By the end of August 2026, he received the all-clear from his care team.
Community through Shredded Pepperoni
As a foodie, chemotherapy was especially hard on Albert, since he experienced side effects of nausea and a low appetite. Worse, perhaps, was his low energy, which kept him from playing with his five-year-old daughter as much as he used to. Albert had always been known as the high-energy dad and fun uncle. By staying positive during treatment, he knew he would return to his old self sooner rather than later.
One of the most unexpected parts of his journey was his newfound community. While his wife and daughter were his rock during treatment, Albert also found support in his followers, fellow creators, and local pizzerias. What started as a love for local pizza grew into a community that showed up for Albert when he needed it most. Throughout August 2026, a group of Windsor food content creators organized a fundraiser in Albert’s name for the Windsor Cancer Centre Foundation, bringing together more than a dozen local pizzerias. The support didn’t stop there. At the end of August, when Albert completed his final chemotherapy treatment, Capri Pizzeria (Dougall) marked the occasion by treating the Windsor Regional Cancer Centre team to lunch. For Albert, it was more than a shared love of pizza. It was a community that had come together to support him when it mattered most.

A New Attitude
While Albert has always been relatively carefree, his cancer journey showed him how to be in the moment and not sweat the small things. He often finds himself thinking that since he overcame cancer, he can overcome any other road bumps. Albert hopes that when other local patients read his story, they will feel inspired by his positive attitude. A diagnosis may be scary, but Albert doesn’t let fear rule his life.
Together, Let’s Grow On for Local Cancer Care
As a 2026 Grow On Windsor ambassador, Albert is sharing his story to inspire others to remain positive and live in the moment as much as they can. This November, join Grow On Windsor to raise funds and awareness while supporting world-class cancer care close to home.
