Tyler Beckett
After many years in the construction sector, Tyler understands the importance of a strong foundation. Following his ampullary adenocarcinoma diagnosis, he is sharing his journey to help other local patients find strength and support as they navigate their own cancer experience.
Nothing to Worry About
In mid-2024, Tyler and his wife underwent full-body MRIs to support a friend’s new venture. He wasn’t worried: he went to the gym frequently, ate healthy, and lived a very active lifestyle. After reviewing the results with his doctor, Tyler learned there were areas of concern that prompted further investigation. After a year of testing and two biopsies, he was diagnosed with ampullary adenocarcinoma, a rare form of cancer that develops where the bile duct and pancreatic duct meet the small intestine.
Tyler’s care team informed him that he would need to undergo a Whipple procedure to remove the mass that had formed and investigate the complexity of his diagnosis. In September 2025, Tyler underwent the several-hour surgery, with hopes that it would completely resolve his cancer. After surgery, however, his cancer was classified as stage three. He learned that it had spread to four lymph nodes and would require months of chemotherapy treatment and radiation, which was not the news that Tyler was hoping for.
Strength During the Unknown
For the next several months, Tyler underwent chemotherapy and radiation. What surprised him the most was the cumulative effects. He knew treatment itself would be difficult, but he did not expect fatigue and difficulty concentrating well beyond each session. Luckily, his loved ones stood beside him during his most difficult days and reminded him that he was never alone.
Tyler took his treatment one day at a time. While it was difficult, there was also strength, gratitude, and hope on the other side. By the end of summer 2026, he completed his treatment and received the all clear from his care team. Since then, Tyler has been focused on returning to normal life by spending time with his family and transitioning back to work. While he would never choose to have cancer, he would not trade the perspective and clarity it gave him.

Focusing on the Future
At the start of his journey, Tyler decided he would not live in fear. This decision became his anchor throughout surgery, treatment, and recovery. He knew he could not control the diagnosis, but he could control how he faced it each day. Even during the hardest parts of treatment, he was focused on the thought of recovery, his family, and his future. For Tyler, cancer did not take away his identity or purpose, but instead, it gave him an improved sense of self.
