Grow On Windsor Kicks Off With A Message Of Unity For Men Living With Cancer In Our Region: We Grow On Together

Windsor, ON – Grow On Windsor makes its return this November, and the official kick off took place today on the top floor of the newly renovated Walker Power Building. The speaker lineup included Dr. Junaid Yousuf, Radiation Oncologist at the Windsor Regional Cancer Centre, as well as Robert Franz, Music Director for the Windsor Symphony Orchestra, and other distinguished guests.

Robert Franz has been receiving treatment from the Windsor Regional Cancer Centre, and agreed to represent Grow On Windsor as an Ambassador for this year’s campaign; raising awareness and funds throughout the month of November for men living with cancer in our region. “Anyone could wake up tomorrow, and their world could be turned upside down with a cancer diagnosis. The fact that our community works so hard to ensure we are prepared to care for someone diagnosed with cancer right here, makes me so proud to live and work in Windsor”, said Franz. He is one of five Grow On Windsor 2022 Ambassadors.

Dr. Yousuf shared that efforts from this year’s Grow On Windsor campaign will fund:
• Brachytherapy treatment for prostate cancer
• Advanced radiation treatment for brain tumours, lesions, and cancers on the skin
• Enhancements within seven cancer outpatient rooms

Houida Kassem, Executive Director of the Windsor Cancer Centre Foundation echoed Dr. Yousef’s sentiments about the need for cancer care right here in Windsor, “Last year, 4245 men were referred to the Windsor Regional Cancer Centre. These are our brothers, friends, uncles, and fathers.” Kassem
knows that a successful Grow On Windsor campaign will be a joint effort between Grow On Ambassadors, the community, and business leaders to pave the way.

Today, at the kick off, two philanthropic automotive leaders in the community committed to lead by example. Ford Motor Company and Unifor Local 444 announced a friendly competition to see who can raise the most funds for Grow On Windsor this November. Kassem hopes that even more organizations decide to participate, saying “We need even more organizations to step up in such an impactful way to support men in our community who have been diagnosed with cancer.”

Organizations and individuals can join the campaign at www.growonwindsor.com by creating a profile, partaking in community promotions, and attending local events throughout November.
