Team Up For Grow On Windsor And Support The Launch Of A Stem Cell Transplant Program In Our Community

WINDSOR, ON – This November, the Windsor Cancer Centre Foundation’s Grow On Windsor campaign returns! At the official kick off, it was announced that funds raised throughout this campaign will support the launch of a Stem Cell Transplant Program at the Windsor Regional Cancer Centre.

A stem cell transplant is an intense procedure that replaces a patient’s own damaged or diseased blood-forming cells with healthy stem cells. A Stem Cell Transplant program in Windsor will tremendously benefit patients who have been diagnosed with Leukemia, Lymphoma, and Multiple Myeloma, who could now qualify for a stem cell transplant here at home – instead of spending three to four weeks in hospital in London, Hamilton, or Toronto.

Joal McMahon is one of four Ambassadors who are the face of this year’s Grow On Windsor campaign, along with Rob Petroni, Sean McConnell, and Steve Gregetz.

Joal McMahon Speaks At The Kickoff

Joal spoke at this morning’s kickoff saying, “I have received tremendous care during treatment in the last year. I was fortunate to be able to be close to home, and still pick my son up from his bus, and attend his hockey games. I couldn’t imagine having to face cancer, and then having to face the emotional distress of going away for treatment.” Joal, Rob, Sean, and Steve, are committed to sharing their stories with the hope of raising funds so that more patients will have the opportunity to receive world class cancer care close to home.

Houida Kassem, Executive Director of the Windsor Cancer Centre Foundation, has seen first-hand, the generosity of our community, “Thank you all for continuing to team up for Grow On Windsor. To date, our community has raised $2.2 million in support of our loved ones diagnosed with cancer. Raising funds to launch a Stem Cell Transplant Program is no easy task, but I am confident our community is up for the challenge.”

At the kick off, organizations like Ground Effects, Baker Tilly, St. Clair College, and the Windsor Spitfires all committed to teaming up for Grow On Windsor, and it’s just the beginning. For the entire month of November, organizations can team up and raise funds to support world class cancer care close to home.

Organizations and individuals can join the campaign at www.growonwindsor.com by creating a profile, partaking in community promotions, and attending local events throughout November.
