Thank you, Windsor Essex, for helping us Lock Out Cancer!

WINDSOR, ON / June 7, 2021 The Windsor Cancer Centre Foundation has officially concluded the 4th Annual Lock Out Cancer campaign! We are proud to announce this years campaign raised over $125,000!

The support from our community has been overwhelming! Community members and local business went the extra mile for women in our region diagnosed with cancer. We are grateful to each and everyone that provided their support!”, says Houida Kassem, Executive Director of the Windsor Cancer Centre Foundation.

Over 30 local businesses donated a portion of their proceeds during May to Lock Out Cancer. Our amazing Ambassadors shared their cancer journeys and our community helped support by purchasing Lock Out Cancer padlocks and Swarovski® Crystal jewelry!

“I have been focused on spreading awareness to others, taking part in fundraising efforts and sharing my story. I am hopeful that someone else might benefit from my story. I am grateful to be an Ambassador for the Windsor Cancer Centre Foundation. They have provided me with support as I continue in my cancer journey with the goal of locking out cancer!”. Said Cheryl Cullen, Cancer Warrior and Lock Out Cancer Ambassador.

Proceeds from Lock Out Cancer will fund the following initiatives within the Windsor Regional Cancer Centre:

  • Breast Reconstruction Program: Allowing patients to continue receiving their breast reconstruction surgery in Windsor.
  • Dignity Robes: Robes that are made by volunteers and gifted to patients, allowing them to stay partially covered during treatment. This is a way of providing comfort and control to the patient.
  • Image Enhancement: Providing wigs to patients who may not have the financial means to purchase one.
  • Robes for Radiation: A warm, waffle knit robe, that is provided to each patient in place of a hospital gown and can be worn while receiving radiation treatment.

“The breast reconstruction program at Windsor Regional Hospital is truly indebted to the generosity of the Windsor Cancer Centre Foundation. The WCCF has provided the necessary tools to provide breast reconstruction to over 60 local women in the past 2 years. Myself and all my patients are so grateful for the support they have given us to run our program. Thank you so much!”, says Dr. Kristina Lutz, MD, FRCSC, Chief of the Division of Plastic Surgery, Windsor Regional Hospital.

The Windsor Cancer Centre Foundation would like to thank our Charity Partner, the Windsor Regional Hospital and our Sponsors, the University of Windsor, the Scott Family Foundation and Ground Effects Ltd., for their unwavering support. Our campaign would not have been possible without our community support, including our 7 local Ambassadors, who were the face of our campaign this year: Chersky Chan, Cheryl Cullen, Jacqueline Marchand, Jennifer Jones, Nishi Gaur, Sadie Daher, and Tawnya Jacob.
