Treatment Under Blue Skies
Tour The Windsor Regional Cancer Centre’s Newest Radiation Suite
Welcome To The Bunker
From the moment a patient enters, the focus is on tranquility and comfort. Gone is the heavy, clinical metal door. In its place? A stunning, full length wall mural of a peaceful nature scene. Inside, soft lighting and a spacious layout help set a calming tone.
The LINAC itself has a sleek design, offering precision treatment while allowing patients to remain comfortably still. And when patients look up from the treatment table? They see a sky; bright, blue, and filled with leaves and branches from a tall shade tree. This lifelike virtual ceiling was designed to ease anxiety during treatment.
A Major Step Forward In Patient-Centered Care
The Bunker isn’t just about advanced technology, it’s about transforming the patient experience. In fact, it’s the new gold standard. Over the next three years, the existing three radiation units will be replaced, and the suites will be outfitted using The Bunker as a model. Patient safety and independence are also front and centre. Thanks to donor support, Patient Lift Ladders have been installed in each radiation unit, including The Bunker. These lifts allow patients to move more freely and safely and have all but eliminated injuries associated with caregivers lifting, moving, and transferring patients.
From Dr. Ken Schneider,
Radiation Oncologist within the Windsor Regional Cancer Program
As an oncologist within our Program for over 30 years, and along with my physician colleagues and entire Program staff, I have seen the merits and successes of providing highest the quality of care through the compassion and generosity of people like you. Our Windsor Regional Cancer Program has had the great fortune of being supported over the many years by our Windsor Cancer Centre Foundation through the generous donations of our community.
We may just think of a donation as just that – a donation. I assure you, it is much more when you can attach a successful cancer treatment outcome provided by those donations. We see it daily in the passion we all have to serve our patients and to be a part of their fight to ensure the best possible outcomes.
Your donations have made that difference. So, when we see patients returning to their families and friends with a successful treatment or knowing we have assisted in their comfort and quality of life it is because of your remarkable generosity to such an important cause. Thank you all. Remember, someone is out there living and thriving because of what we can do together. You, as one of our donors, have been apart of that miracle of what we call life!
What could be better?
