Windsor Cancer Centre Foundation Kicks Off 2nd Annual Show Us Your Brave Campaign

Windsor ON – Show Us Your Brave is a powerful fundraising and awareness campaign. 1 in 8 from our community will hear the words ‘You have cancer.’ Our loved ones have no choice but to face their diagnosis. Show Us Your Brave challenges you to look within, and build the courage to attempt something you’ve perhaps been too afraid to try – until now.

What do you think it’s like to come face to face with your biggest fear?

Today at Ambassador Golf in Windsor, approximately 100 people were in attendance for the official kickoff of this year’s campaign. The fundraising goal for Show Us Your Brave this year is $350,000.

Dr. Caroline Hamm, Oncologist at the Windsor Regional Cancer Program, was in attendance and had this to say when she addressed the crowd, “Donor dollars make this kind of care possible. They fund advanced equipment, research initiatives, and compassionate care services that go far beyond basic treatment. Community support allows us to offer care that is not only effective – but deeply human.”

There are two ways to participate, you can register for Brave Day, or you can Brave Your Own Way. Brave Day takes place on June 21st, where participants will have the opportunity to rappel down 170 feet from the top of the CIBC building in Downtown Windsor. Space is limited, so make sure to check out Show Us Your Brave on our website to secure your spot!

Houida Kassem, Executive Director of the Windsor Cancer Centre Foundation, shared the essence of this year’s campaign saying, “The beauty of this campaign is that it gives everyone the opportunity to step outside of their comfort zone.  To do something you never imagined doing—not for yourselves, but for someone else. Someone facing cancer. Someone who may need you to show your courage so that they don’t feel alone. That’s what Show Us Your Brave is all about.

Being brave doesn’t mean you don’t feel afraid. Being brave means you just don’t let fear stop you.

Attendees shared how they will show bravery.

Each one of us has been impacted by cancer in some way. An estimated 1 in 8 will bravely face their diagnosis and put their faith and trust in the expertise of our local medical professionals. By lending your support to Show Us Your Brave, you are making an immediate impact on our local cancer patients. Funds raised through Show Us Your Brave will support vital programs and services such as the Stem Cell Transplant Program and our Breast Reconstruction Program or items like the Patient Lift Assist Ladders and Robes for Radiation.
