Windsor Cancer Centre Foundation Launches Powerful New Campaign: Show Us Your Brave

Windsor ON – Show Us Your Brave is a powerful new fundraising and awareness campaign. To participate, you are encouraged to make the pledge to raise funds, and step outside your comfort zone and try something that fear has held you back from experiencing.

What do you think it’s like to come face to face with your biggest fear?

1 in 8 from our community will hear the words ‘You have cancer.’ Our loved ones have no choice but to face their diagnosis. Show Us Your Brave challenges you to look within, and build the courage to attempt something you’ve perhaps been too afraid to try – until now.

There are two ways to participate, you can register for Brave Day, or you can Brave Your Own Way. Brave Day takes place on June 22nd, where up to 90 participants will have the opportunity to rappel down 170 feet from the top of the CIBC building in Downtown Windsor. This powerful event will be held alongside our partner, Over The Edge. They are an urban rappelling company with a long history creating memorable fundraising events for nonprofit organizations. Space is limited, so make sure to check out Show Us Your Brave on our website to secure your spot!

Heather Chauvin is one of four Show Us Your Brave Ambassadors. She had this to say about the new campaign:

“As a wife and mother of three young boys, I was diagnosed with stage 4 burkitt’s lymphoma, a rare and rapidly growing cancer that quickly spread throughout my abdomen. I genuinely believe I wouldn’t be standing here today had it not been fore the fundraising efforts that allowed me to have my care close to home. Myself, alongside my fellow Ambassadors, Shannon Kadar, Mark Pastorious, and Pamela Gbrayel, collectively represent a voice of courage, resilience, and hope and doing things you may not have thought you could do… like rappelling a170 foot building maybe?” Each of us has our own story to tell, but we are united in our commitment to be the face of this year’s campaign, showing our brave by sharing our stories. Our stories may be different but we all agree that receiving local accessible care can truly make a difference in someone’s life.”

Being brave doesn’t mean you don’t feel afraid. Being brave means you just don’t let fear stop you.

Attendees shared how they will show bravery.

Each one of us has been impacted by cancer in some way. An estimated 1 in 8 will bravely face their diagnosis and put their faith and trust in the expertise of our local medical professionals. By lending your support to Show Us Your Brave, you are making an immediate impact on our local cancer patients. Funds raised through Show Us Your Brave will support vital programs and services such as the Stem Cell Transplant Program and our Breast Reconstruction Program or items like the Bariatric Lift Assist Ladders and Robes for Radiation.

Houida Kassem, Executive Director of the Windsor Cancer Centre Foundation, says the community is inspired by the courage of our local cancer community. “Thank you for showing us your brave. Courage doesn’t always roar; it isn’t necessarily the loudest. It is the quiet determination of perseverance in the face of adversity. Thank you to our sponsors, couldn’t do this without support from: LiUNA!625, Ground Effects, Zehrs Malden, the Windsor Spitfires, and AlumaSafway.”

To register for Brave Day, sign up on our website, and reach your fundraising goal to secure your spot before June 22nd. Space is limited.

To Brave Your Own Way, you have the ability to set your own fundraising goal, announce the fear you’ll face, and act on it once you’ve reached your goal.
